I have been an antique dealer since 1978. For many years as an open shop on the West Coast, eventually closing my shop to become a full time Show Dealer. I still do a Show periodically. I am now living in Arizona in the High Country. I have always taken a great deal of pleasure in pleasing my customers, and to have them return over and over. My goal is to give satisfaction with each transaction. I love the quirky, the unusual, and have a special fondness for treen, brass and copper. I am pleased to be here on Dig Antiques, now let me please you! I accept PayPal and personal checks. If the latter, shipment will be after the check clears. Lay-away available, please ask. Go Tp Bed # 1293

This is a walnut Go To Bed" circa 1890-1900 The size is 2.5" in height and 1.5" in diameter. These were rather romantically called "Go To Bed's" and it was said, that once you put out all the lamps, the match atop of this would be enough light to see you to your bed. The more practical use for these were on the ladies or gentleman of the house's desk, to melt the sealing wax, which secured their correspondence. ( There were no self gummed, or any other kind of envelopes at the time.) Many materials were used for these, some very fancy china, and brass and bronze, most with a striking surface on the bottom. These simple treen kind had a piece of sandpaper glued to the bottom, ready to be replaced as it became worn. The hole on the top which holds the match is somewhat smaller than todays matches., so I trimmed the match a bit, and it works fine. The condition of this striker is perfect.
