24-244. An early brass two burner whale oil Chamber Lamp. The lamp (font and stem) was made in two, vertical, mirror image castings, which were then soldered together. The vertical casting line is just visible in some of the photos. The base was made of a separate single casting. The lamp was then peened into the saucer shaped base. Overall, it is in good, to very good condition, with a very few dings and an unexplained ring of solder just below the burner. The lamp is believed to be American and dating from the second half of the 18th century into the very early-19th century (1750 to 1810). A scarce and hard to find example in brass.
