This painted Wayne County, Ohio blanket chest is attributed to Sonnenberg’s (Kidron) Annabaptist / Swiss Mennonite / Amish community. It was exhibited in the 2011 Equal In Goodness exhibition of Ohio furniture held at the Ohio Decorative Arts Center. It features yellow outlining through, a floral motif and a bracket base with a shaped apron. The case is dovetailed. It contains a till with lid above a dovetailed drawer. The hinges and lock appear to be original. Except for some scuffs and scrapes from use, this blanket chest in very good to excellent condition. It is 38” wide x 19 3/8” deep measured across the top. The case is 36” x 18 3/8”. That is, the top extends beyond the case about 1” on the front and both ends. It is raised on cut out feet and stands 21 1/2” high.
