Lovely example of fine lathe work on Gutta Percha. A popular composite material used in the the 1860s and 70s; on Union photo cases used in the Civil War period for example. This is a piece from a sewing box found in Vermont. It is in working condition as a measure and it is unbroken. It measures 2 1/2"H X 1 1/2"diameter. Great item. Rare.
