This is a two piece food service trivet. I see it advertised as other things including a dolls house fender, a door stop and other silly things. It's a trivet! The usefulness of this piece of polished cast brass is that it separated to accommodate a hot plate of varying sizes. I date this at between 1820 and 1850. It is heavy duty with nice wear and patina. It measures 7" X 2 1/2" X 1". A useful table piece on your Colonial table.
