This is an early Betty Lamp. Very well made; it is constructed of iron. And, with a fanciful turn key to the hatch door. The form is typical of early German immigrant lamps from the early 19th Century. These burned fish oil or fat trimmings. They were often used in the mines up until the 20th C. as well as the home. This one is as good as it gets in patina, style and form.
