American Primitive Orig Finish Scouring Board

This is an unusual item to find. I bought this from a retired dealer of primitives. Ashes from the fireplace would be gathered and put into the box and then used with water to make a paste used to "scour", "scrub" or rub down knives and other cooking utensil's. It is of the colonial period or a bit later and hails from South Carolina. The wood is white pine and is 32"H X the box area is 4" deep. It appears to have early joining nails. The finish on the wood appears to be original and has a nice patina. The kind you want to see.
