This is an early "skimming" ladle. This would have been used in a large cauldron while making jams or conserving. From Pennsylvania, this kitchen or hearth tool is in very fine condition with its punch work and blacksmithing quality. I believe it to be late 18th C and the hex design is very typical of the Pennsylvania Dutch motifs. It also has a nice rat tail hanger. This tool is 23" long with the brass skimmer being 7" in diameter. Fine.
