25-116. A hanging slide lid candle or pipe box. Made of fine solid mahogany with dovetail and nail construction. With a raised panel slide lid featuring a diamond inlay design of a contrasting-colored wood and an applied crest. It measures approximately 18” long x 5.3” wide. There is an old repair to the crest, otherwise the box is in very good condition, with a mellow, exquisitely pleasing, patina. Found in Ohio but attributed to New England. Dating from the middle of the 19th century.
