25-125. An unusual and hard to find domestic, wall hanging combination Candle Box / Tinder Box. Made of ash using rose head and T head nail construction. In original dark brown milk paint with a wonderful surface patina. A hand beveled slide lid covers the three-compartment interior. The large top compartment is suitable for candle storage, the center compartment for tinder such as tow, a steel striker and a flint. The bottom compartment for igniting the tinder. The box measures approximately 15.75” high x 5.5” wide x 2.5” deep. American and dating from the mid 18th century.
