25-143. A scarce, adjustable wooden Betty Lamp stand made of beech with a threaded stem mounted into a turned base and a cross bar that accommodates two hanging lamps. It stands approximately 22” high with the cross bar of 10”. The piece is in very good condition with superb patina and remnants of the original black surface. Origin, New England, ca- early to mid-18th century. A very similar form is pictured in “Making Fire and Light in the Home—pre-1820” by John Caspall, p. 266, 1995, Antique Collector’s Club.
