26-005. Early wrought iron, tool decorated, flax seed ripper, dated 1829. Attributed to southeastern Pennsylvania. Hand forged and wrought with bench drive mounting cleats, curled end spikes and thirteen long interior spike-pointed rods all forged to a thumb rail which has dart punchwork designs on both sides and is dated 1829. This is an excellent example of a rural Blacksmith’s work, still solid after nearly 200 years. The ripper measures approximately 15” long x 1.12” thick x 10.75” high and weighing approximately 5 lbs. 2 oz. In very good, work-used condition.
