26-016. A miniature chip-carved slide lid box. Suitable for small candles, it was carved from a single piece of pine with all-over geometric chip carved designs. The lid is reinforced with an iron strap secured with rose head nails. This was either part of the original design or a very early, contemporary repair. The box measures approximately 8,25” long x 2.75” wide x 3” high. Possibly an early Pennsylvania German form and dating from the first half of the 18th century.
