Price: $795.
Sold by Phillips and Durkin Antiques
26-010. A rare and early jackknife featuring an eagle-shaped blade and an integral flint striker. The knife is constructed with a one-piece forged steel case fitted with a steel blade. A finger ring at the end of the handle serves as a flint striker for fire-starting, combining two essential functions in a single, compact tool. The surface remains wonderfully untouched, retaining its original character and patina. The knife measures approximately 7 inches closed and 12.5 inches open, with a 5.25-inch blade. A scarce and difficult form to find—particularly in such an early example with high-quality workmanship. This knife and striker combination is likely of Pennsylvania German origin and dates to circa 1680–1740. An unusual survivor dating from ca.1680-1740. [Provenance: A collection of 17th & early-18th century primitives from upstate New York.]
