Catherine Bailey’s Pictorial Sampler, 1840

Catherine Bailey stitched this sampler in 1840. It is done on linen with green, blue, pink and brown silk thread. It features a farm house and yard with rabbits, geese, hens, a turkey and dog surrounded by flower vine border. it is 14 7/8" x 23" by sight and 16 1/2" x 24 1/2" framed. There are no readily visible tears or missing stitches. It has not been examined outsider the frame. An attached note suggests it may have descended through the King family of New Jersey, from there through Southern Bell Antiques, Dayton, Ohio, to Lucy Hostermann, Circleville, Ohio in 1977.
