An exceptional hanging wall box. This box is so unusual having a slot on the backboard to hold knives. There are two wells in the box. I believe the function of this box was so utilitarian as to hold onions, apples, any assortment of food up off the table or floor to protect it from mice and other pests. The knife holder is such an unusual addition. The surface of this box is worn to perfection, constructed with square nails. American wall box, it measures 18 1/2 x 10 1/2 x x 9 inches.
