26-077. A lamp tidy or stand, finely crafted from a single piece of hardwood and composed of a series of stacked faceted globular elements. Symmetrical top-to-bottom with flat terminals and rich untouched patina. The actual original purpose is unknown. It could have been made as a whimsy, simply a decorative folk-art object, or likely as a betty or fat lamp stand. It demonstrates an exceptional sculptural presence with evidence of extensive hand-tool work throughout. It measures approximately eight 8 inches high, with both the top and base being roughly oblong at approximately 2 ½” x 2 ¾”. In very good condition without any breaks or repairs. It was found in Pennsylvania and dates to the early to mid-19th century (Betty Lamp Sold Separately).
