26-049. This is an early, primitively constructed pine or spruce light stand, for hanging betty or cruise lamps. The 21.5” high turned stem is and is topped by a turned finial. A similarly turned horizontal hanger is located at a height of 18.5”. This is all mounted on a pine or spruce base, measuring 10” x 6.75” x 1.25”. Note that the wood grain is raised all along the stem, consistent with an early date, ca. early to mid-17th century. The lamp stand is in very good condition, with some insect damage to the underside of the base. This is not active and does not affect the stability or soundness of the piece. It is American, found in New Hampshire and dates to the first half of the 17th century, ca. 1625. It comes with the accompanying cruise lamp, which has nicely cut out bird figures decorating both the top and bottom stems. They are punch-tool decorated. The cruise lamp is in very good condition with only minor surface rust it is a bit later, likely from Pennsylvania, and dates to ca. 1700. Together they are priced at $1,025
