26-025. American Folk Art Watercolor Portrait of a Boy, Dated 1859. Charming small watercolor and graphite portrait on paper depicting a young boy in profile, with short brown hair, a ruffled white collar, and an elaborately patterned blue checked costume. The economical treatment of the face contrasts with the carefully rendered geometric decoration of the clothing, giving the portrait a particularly appealing folk-art quality. The verso is inscribed “1859 AOG.” Housed in a period black-lacquered wood frame with gilt metal liner and decorative gilt mount. Frame, 5.5"h. x 4.75"w. American, probably Northeastern or Mid-Atlantic, 1859. Provenance: From the Lifetime Collection of the late Deb Fisher, Lebanon, Ohio.
