26-104. American Folk Art Watercolor Portrait of a Young Boy, ca. 1855–1865. Charming full-length watercolor and graphite portrait on paper depicting a young boy standing in profile, wearing a gray-blue skirted costume with fitted, military-inspired double-breasted bodice, long sleeves, and full gathered skirt above white embroidered pantalettes. He holds what appears to be a small riding or buggy whip. Particularly appealing naïve treatment of the figure, with delicately drawn hair and facial features contrasting with the strongly outlined costume. American, probably Northeastern or Mid-Atlantic, circa 1855–1865. Housed in a handsome period burl-walnut-veneered frame. Approximately 7¾"h. x 6"w. Very good condition with even toning and no apparent tears or losses.
