26-105. American Folk Art Portrait of Mrs. Abbott Thayer, Boston, ca. 1850–1855. Delightful mid-19th-century watercolor portrait on paper of a young woman identified on the verso as “Mrs. Abbott Thayer / Beacon Hill / Boston Mass.” Shown full-length and fashionably dressed in a striking blue-green plaid gown with fitted pointed bodice, white chemisette and elaborately flounced skirt, her center-parted hair arranged in broad side rolls and pendant ringlets. Particularly appealing naïve treatment, with the richly patterned tartan costume contrasting against a simple interior and blue patterned floor covering. American, probably Boston, Massachusetts, circa 1850–1855. Housed in a period-stained wood frame, approximately 13¾"h. x 12"w. Overall good condition with minor pigment losses and a water stain at lower right that does not affect the figure.
