Antique, American Federal Flag Shield from the late 19th. century. These decorative plaques were frequently used for political campaigns, parades or parade decorations. There are hooks in the back from which you can insert smaller American flags.. Hand hammered sheet metal. 38 to 45 stars for the late 19th. century variants. Original patina, crackled paint texture and some rust. Overall good condition with some fading in the upper portion where you see the stars. The shield measures 29 x 23 3/4 inches.All original finish and paint.
