There were many lighting accessories that were necessary and useful to help the homemaker manage the lighting tasks in the home. Betty lamps and Cruise Lamps needed to be cleaned, they needed spill for lighting, tinder boxes used to start a small flame, shelves and stands to hold the lighting when in use and when not in use. One of these objects is the Lamp Stand. They come in table height and floor height. These stands were used to store lamps or to elevate lit lamps to areas where light was needed. This is a late 18th. century example made of hand forged iron. It has hooks for three lights. The overall height of this piece is 30 3/4 inches and the spread of the penny feet is about 10 1/2 inches. Good and heavy so it wouldn’t tip.
