26-081. A fine and unusual early American wooden lighting stand retaining an excellent untouched surface and rich patina. The stand is constructed of hard wood. Having a tapered hand-worked stem on a chamfered cross base and surmounted by a small square platform suitable for a betty or grease lamp. Examination reveals extensive evidence of hand-tool construction, with the stem fashioned from square stock and worked into broad chamfered and faceted surfaces. Measures approximately 15 inches high. Top platform 2 ¾ inches square; cross base 7 ¾ inches square. It was found in New Hampshire, and dates from the end of the 18th century into the early-19th century.
