Lamp Tidy’s are one of my most favorite forms. This tidy is just wonderful in that the age and size make it quite a nice example of an early 19th. century Betty Lamp Tidy. The surface of the tidy is a dark Spanish Brown Paint. The Size is just wonderful and more difficult to find the tall ones. this one measures 12 1/2 inches tall, the base measures 5 1/4 inches and the top measures 4 1/4 inches.. The base is six sided, scored shaft and six sided pedestal top. Circa 1830-1850, excellent condition. American tidy. Tidy’s were used to elevate the betty lamp for better light accessibility. The iron tidy is also from the same period and is in excellent condition.
