26-112. British or American folk-art watercolor and pencil portrait of a young boy, circa 1845–1860. Shown in profile, the boy wears a gray belted tunic and matching knee-length trousers with dark trim, a blue bow tie, stockings, and ankle boots. He holds a small riding or drover’s whip while cattle graze in the finely rendered pastoral landscape behind him. An especially appealing rural childhood portrait combining figure, landscape, and occupational imagery. Some expected toning and scattered discoloration. Retains its period dark-painted or rosewood-grained ogee frame with gilt liner, measuring 7¼ by 6 inches.
