A beautifully shaped shaving box. The box is quite unusual in form and highly decorated with stars which suggest that the box is most likely a Civil War Piece. When the box with an elliptical top is laying on its back the lid shows three inlaid stars, two buttons, and raised moldings. At the narrow end of box is another relief-carved star; top features two additional stars. When the lid is opened the user has access to a fitted, star inlaid compartment for shaving cream and accessories. The shaving box measures 7.75″ x 5.25″ x 2.75″. The shaving box is constructed with Walnut and Pine wood, brass buttons & hinges. The condition is Good. The box appears to have had an iron hasp for closure at one time and is now retrofitted with wood. A great piece to be used as a dresser box or hung on the wall.
