Circa 1880 Cloth Rag Doll Folk Art American 20"
FROM THE COLLECTION OF PAT HATCH, HARVARD, MASSACHUSETTS., A LONG TIME COLLECTOR AND DEALER. This is the description from the auction: "Baby circa 1880 painted very dear little face. Baby is a big heavy plump doll, all original body and painted face. She has on a dress that fits perfectly but probably isn't original. Her face is worn a little but no damage, maybe it has darkened with age? I think she is the best baby. Nice defined fingers and separate thumbs. She has lost a lot of stuffing in her arms, I don't know how, and her legs have black stockings sewn on but everything feels right and original. She is 20 inches tall and circa 1880. Condition: Wear/surface grime." APPROX: height is 20" CONDITION: spots, holes, fading, along with wear and use that is expected with age

This is the description from the auction: "Serious little pencil face doll circa 1880-90 and 14 inches tall. This is a sweet little pencil face doll, packed firmly with cotton, is jointed at the shoulders and hips. She has put-together-clothes. She has a very nice onesie, the early petticoat and the a yellow calico blouse, and a calico trimmed apron. She is in played with condition, but the only real condition issue is that she is missing the end of one hand. She is circa 1880-90 and is 14 inches tall. Condition: (1) hand absent, well loved." This little antique pencil face doll is made out of wonderful homespun linen. She has a sturdy body that is not jointed but sits after years of being plunked down. She is dressed in a flannel brown skirt and a flannel top with a drawstring at the neck. She has pantaloons that button to the top. She has a collar and a lace bonnet and little black leather shoes. This Wonderful Antique 22" Tall Rag Doll is from the Pat Hatch Doll Auction. Pat is a very well known Early/Old Doll Collector and Dealer. This is the description from the auction: "This large and handsewn black sateen cloth doll has a great oil painted face and is wearing a soft orange colored hand sewn linen dress. She has astrakhan hair, cotton stuffed body, and attached arms and legs. Her face is great but has something on her face that is covering over part of her features and her cheek. She is historically valuable, and it would be wonderful if someone wanted to save her by having her face gently cleaned. A painting restorer I think could do a good and safe job on her."
