DESCRIPTION
White pine— probably Massachusetts or Rhode Island. Illegible cursive chalk signature in drawer. Almost entirely original and virtually untouched. Tall bracket with center drop and bootjack ends. Beautifully proportioned. Original Indian red paint w/ untouched patina. Original brasses consist entirely of escutcheons with little rosehead nails and knobs in the key holes. (quaint). Original worn drawer runners are untouched; cotter pin hinges; rosehead nails with nothing modern added. Here’s something that sat around for 250+ years with very little alteration from the day it was made.
CONDITION
Glued repair well aligned: left foot Most of the iron snipe hinges are present but non-operable… so the lid just sits atop. These hinges can be restored. Its a good and a rare thing that no one saw fit to add butt hinges or modify original drawer runners.
