It is completely hand pieced and hand quilted in wonderful early red, blue, brown, and white print fabrics, and the backing is a terrific red print that is turned to the front to form the binding. It is filled with either cotton or possibly wool, and measures about 36" x 31". It is in very nice antique condition, with no holes, rips, or repairs, and only a few small brown stains that I didn't even notice till I examined the piece closely. For sale is a wonderful and super primitive 19th century tin candle mold that can make 24 candles at a time that I acquired from a sale in Pennsylvania, and that I'm sure was made there as well. It has a fluted handle on one side, and there are 6 candles still inside. The mold measures about 11" tall 8 1/4" long and 5 1/4" wide not including the handle, which extends out about 2 1/2". It is in primitive antique condition, with the previously mentioned candles, as well as surface dirt, oxidation, and minor dings, but at least in my opinion, it is still very worthy of display. For sale is a charming antique early 19th century eglomise print of a young family that is titled "Happiness", along with the "Painted by D. Gerolimo". The family is seated at a table looking at documents, and the father is dressed in what looks like military garb holding some kind of instrument. The family is sort of framed by curtains, there is a framed mirror(?) to the left, and an iron gate to the right with a rather grand looking house in the background, along with a variety of trees. The piece is housed in what I believe is the original Hogarth painted and gilded wood frame. The framed piece measures about 16 1/2" x 12 1/2" with sight measurements of 12" x 10". It is in nice antique condition, with nice signs of age, including a bit of missing black paint on the left side that isn't visible in front, and that doesn't detract from its display. In addition, the paper backing and wire hanger are recent replacements. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

I acquired it from a sale in Virginia, but I don't know for sure where it was made. The moon/sun is painted white, which is surrounded by a wonderful sky blue, and brown below. The interior of the mortar as well as the end of the pestle are painted pink, and all of the paint appears to be original. In addition, there are nice scribed lines on the handle of the pestle. For sale is a fabulous antique Pennsylvania folk art apple box centerpiece with naively painted images of a running horse on one side, and a deer on the opposite. The background color is a dark robin's egg blue, and according to the seller, the paint is milk based. The box has canted sides, and is constructed with handmade nails. In addition, there is the name "Johannes Spitler" written on one handle, and the year 1787 on the other. Based on my research, I am unsure if this is a work by Spitler, as it seems much more naive than other works I have seen. That said, it is an old piece, most likely 19th century. It measures about 12 3/8" long, 12 3/8" wide, and 8" tall, and is in nice antique condition, with nice signs of age, including paint wear, oxidation around the nails, etc. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a fabulous antique 19th century folk art painted dome top box with birds flanking an urn with what I think is a fruit tree on the lid, and a swag design on the front that I acquired from a collection in Pennsylvania. There is a note inside indicating that it was purchased at the Jim Burke November 1989 York, PA., show, and that it is similar to Bucher boxes, however, according to the seller, it is thought to be French. I don't know for sure, but I would certainly lean towards a European origin. There is additional painted decoration on the sides, and the back and bottom are painted blue. There is a small wire handle on the top, wire hinges, and the original key and locking mechanism are still in place. (The key hangs on a piece of wire on the interior, and I didn't attempt to remove it.) In addition, it is lined with paper. For sale is an antique show towel that I acquired in Pennsylvania some time back, and that I'm fairly certain was made there as well. I researched the name "Anna Histand", and found information indicating that she was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1799, along with other information about her background, which I will include with the show towel. The main design is an embroidered bird tree with the date of 1814 above, and crowns in the top corners. When I saw the crowns, I thought the piece might be English, but after researching the name, I'm fairly confident that it is from Chester County. Other embroidered images include the initials "A H" flanking the bird tree, as well as flowers or something similar below the initials, and the name at the bottom, flanked by 8-point stars. In addition, small crocheted trees flank the date, and there is a crocheted panel that depict trees, I believe with fringe at the bottom. The show towel measures about 41" long and 13" wide, and is in superb condition, with no holes, rips, repairs, and just one small light stain on the top edge. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a wonderful antique 19th century mixed media folk art portrait of a cat named "Hookey" that came from New England. It may have been made there as well, but I can't verify that. The cat is wool placed over leather, I believe, and it has bead or button eyes, and cotton string whiskers. The name Hookey looks like it was cut from a book or magazine, and the background is paper that has been coated with something. The portrait is housed in a period veneer frame, and there is a metal hook at the top for hanging. It measures about 9 1/4" x 6 3/8" with sight measurements of 7 1/4" x 4 3/8". It is in nice, but antique condition, with toning and wrinkles on the paper, but at least in my opinion, it displays very well. For sale is a terrific antique ca. 1900 folk art crib quilt in an unusual oak leaves and berries pattern. At the bottom, there are images of trees, birds, and what I think is a rabbit. The sampler has been mounted on gauze/tulle fabric, and measures about 17 1/4" x 7 1/4". In addition, on the interior, there is a little sticker that says "Blue Box, Dorothy Hammond, 593SBX". I assume that the numbers and letters represent some kind of inventory number for the original owner's collection. The box measures about 10 1/2" long, 4 1/2" tall including the lock mechanisms, and 4 1/2" wide, and is in wonderful antique condition, with paint wear in all the right places, and a working lock mechanism. In addition, In the middle of the top, there is an incised circle that looks like the sun, or possibly a sunflower. All of the drawer pulls are hand carved wood, and I think that the drawers are mortised. The piece measures about 12 5/8" tall, 7 7/8" wide, and 3 1/2" deep, and is in nice vintage/antique condition, with nice signs of age, including some filler or glue on the back, but it displays very well. For sale is a wonderful antique folk art band sampler that I acquired recently in Pennsylvania. It was made by Patty Spaulding, and comes from the collection of Betty Burgess in Truemanville, Nova Sotia, Canada as documented on the back. I am not sure if it is a Canadian sampler, but I suppose that it could be. It could also be from Pennsylvania, but again, I just don't know. It is completed with cotton or possibly wool thread on what I believe is homespun, and depicts the alphabet twice, in one set using double sets of letters (AA,BB, etc.) as well as other names and initials. In addition there are images of rooster, hen, trees, fruit baskets, dogs, and a large very stylized tulip, as well as other images. For sale is a very sweet antique drawstring seed, or possibly button bag that I acquired from a seller in New York state. It is made of a wonderful old fabric in a grid pattern with images of fruit in some of the corners, as well as plus signs formed by dots inside the squares. I think that the drawstring is a shoelace, and the bag measures about 15" long and 7 1/4" wide, and is in nice antique condition, with some minor light brown staining on one side, and a couple of tiny black spots on the other, which might have been in the making of the fabric, although I don't know for sure. For sale is an antique 19th century knife/cutlery box, or possibly garden tote that I found in Pennsylvania, and that I'm certain was made there as well. It has nice form, with an elongated heart cutout handle, hand dovetailing and hand cut nail construction, but is unusual because the corners on one side are not the same as on the others. I am unsure if it was made that way, or that the corners on one side broke off sometime long ago, because the patina is the same throughout the box. The piece is a generous size, and measures about 16 1/2" long, 12" wide, and 8" tall from the middle part of the handle. It is in nice antique condition, with a dark aged patina, appropriate oxidation around the nails, and some very tight and stable cracks that aren't very noticeable, and don't compromise the integrity of the piece. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

The piece measures about 6 1/2" high, 6 3/4" wide, and 3 1/4" front to back, and is in very nice antique condition, with no chips, etc., but the right front paw leg has been reattached, barely noticeable at all, but mentioned for the sake of complete accuracy. In fact, I hadn't even noticed it until I examined the piece very closely. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a wonderful unframed antique, early to mid 19th century silk on linen sampler that I acquired in Indiana. I think that it is English, although it could be American. There are urns of flowers, trees, dogs, birds, and a single peacock above the apple tree, in addition to other images, as well as an intricate border. A cotton backing has been applied to protect the sampler. It measures about 16 1/2" 13 1/4", and is in nice antique condition, with overall toning, as well as evidence that it was framed in a previous life. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a naive antique, likely early to mid 19th century, unframed silk on linen sampler. I think that it is American, although I can't verify that so it could be English. There is a large house at the top flanked by trees and single flower stems, with the alphabet below that is flanked by urns of what I think are flowers. Below is a large urn of tulips, flanked by baskets or possibly urns that have single stem flowers, as well as 2 more urns of flowers, tiny trees, what look like very stylized single tulips, and 2 tiny what I believe are rabbits. The tiny trees and rabbits are a tan/light brown on the left, and almost the same color as the linen on the right, which makes them almost blend in. There is a triangular border, and the same design divides the piece approximately in half. In addition, the sampler has been sewn onto an ecru cotton backing. The sampler measures about 20 3/4" x 15 1/2", and is in nice antique condition, with light toning, and holes in the corners, as well as 2 others in the middle on the right which aren't noticeable because of the fabric backing. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is what I believe is a rare tinquilt template in the form of a sun or possibly a flower that I acquired in Illinois. I believe it is rare because I have never seen one with handle as this one has, which I would think would make it easier to hold in place when tracing the design. The handle is soldered onto a round disc, which is in turn, soldered to the design. The piece measures about 5 1/4" in diameter and 2 5/8" long including the handle. It is in nice antique condition, with a dark aged patina, but no significant issues. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a wonderful vintage Pennsylvania folk art watercolor fraktur that depicts a pair of roosters. The piece has good age, but I don't think that it is 19th century. Each rooster has an oversized flower behind it, and there is a bush/tree in the middle. The piece is housed in a nice old frame with a metal loop hanger, and measures about 10" x 6", with sight measurements of 8" x 4". The piece is in nice vintage condition, with overall toning, but no other issues. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a charming antique dated 1857 folk art watercolor portrait of a young boy dressed in red pulling his horse pull toy. In addition to the date, the painting is signed "W. Hopkines". In addition, it is housed in a nice old frame with a metal loop hanger at the top. The framed painting measures about 9" x 8 1/2", with sight measurements of 6 1/4" x 5 3/4". It is in antique condition, with overall toning and a few spots, a small tear in the upper right corner, and it appears that it was folded at one time before it was framed, but despite its flaws, at least in my opinion, it is very worthy of display. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

The framed piece measures about 13 1/4" x 11 1/4" with sight measurements of 10 1/4" x 8 1/4". The image itself is about 8" tall and 3 1/4" wide. The paper backing and wire hanger are new replacements, and it should be noted that acid free backing has been placed behind the painting to prevent further toning, etc. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a rare and very early dated 1706 English silk on linen sampler that I acquired from a sale in Pennsylvania. It is the earliest sampler that I have had the opportunity of owning. It was made by Ann Axton, and there are many images throughout the piece including 2 images that depict people under a tree, a human image near each corner, many birds, lions, flowers, and more. In addition, there is writing near the top, as well as in the center near the bottom, although I really can't decipher all of what has been written. The sampler is housed in a fairly new frame, probably from the 1990's or so, and measures about 17 1/2" x 11 1/2". It is in antique but very displayable condition, with overall toning, and areas of loss, but still mostly intact. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a wonderful antique folk art cat's tongue rug that has been in my home for quite a few years. I think that it is from Pennsylvania, but I can't really remember for sure where I acquired it. It is made primarily of wool that has been bound with linen or cotton, and in the center there is an embroidered image of 2 birds, on that appears to be a dove, and the other a crested bird, all completed in gray wool yarn. The image is a bit askew, but that's how it was made. The backing looks to be possibly a remnant from an old full cloth quilt, although I don't know for sure. The piece measures about 29 1/4" x 22 1/4", and is in nice antique condition, with one tongue missing a bit of its binding, as well as a couple of small holes, and a few brown stains, but it displays very well. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a charming antique ca. 1860's-1870's flower basket quilt that came from Ohio. It is hand pieced, hand appliqued, and elaborately hand quilted in grid and feather wreath designs, and I believe it is thinly filled with raw cotton, as you can see the occasional cotton seed when the quilt is held to the light. The quilt measures about 78" x 76", and is in nice antique condition, with some minor wear on the binding, very light toning, and a few very light spots, not noticeable, but mentioned for the same of complete accuracy. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a very nice antique comfort quilt that I acquired a few years ago in Ohio. I believe it is hand piece using a nice variety of early plaid fabrics, including lots of browns, is hand knotted using rather thick yellow thread, and the backing is solid brown cotton. The same solid brown has been hand applied for the binding. Although I can't tell for sure, I believe it is very thinly filled with cotton batting. The piece measures about 68" square, and is in very nice near mint condition, with no noticeable issues. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a wonderful vintage, possibly antique, folk art penny rug with cat's tongue "fringe" on the short sides that has been on display in my home for quite a few years. It is completely hand sewn and embroidered on polka dot cotton (very hard to see unless closely examined) using a nice variety of mainly knit fabrics. A rather unusual color palette has been employed including, black, red, ecru, pink, gray, and turquoise blue. In addition, a burlap sack backing has been placed on the underside. The piece measures about 48" long and 22" wide, and is in nice vintage/antique condition, with some minor fading, one small area of a bit of missing embroidery, and wear and holes on the burlap, but it displays very well. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a wonderful vintage, possibly antique, folk tramp art small size cupboard/cabinet that I acquired in Illinois. It is made of old cigar boxes, has applied hears, leaves, and diamonds, the drawer pulls and door latch are white porcelain, and the hinges appear to be some kind of cloth tape. The piece measures about 13 1/2" tall, 10 1/2" long, and 5" deep, and is in nice vintage/antique condition, with a warm patina, but no significant flaws. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a graphic antique dated 1851 coverlet that I recently acquired, and that was previously in a New York collection. It is a double weave piece, and has a large center medallion, eagles, deer, birds, buildings, pears, leaves, flowers, and scrolls all around the medallion. There is a small empty box on one side, and on the opposite side the box has the initials "AMC", but I have no information on who the maker was. There is no center seam or fringe, and the coverlet measures about 90" x 87". It is in excellent condition, with a tiny pull or 2, and there is some very light toning on the lighter side of the piece, but no holes, rips, stains, or repairs. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions or for additional photos.

For sale is a wonderful and huge antique folk art brown and black velvet starfish pin cushion or hatpin cushion that I acquired in Pennsylvania, and that I'm confident was made there as well. The reason I think that it may have been a hatpin cushion is because of both the size, and what looks sort of like a hat on the top. It is filled with either sawdust or sand, and measures about 10" in diameter on the bottom, and about 7" tall. It is in very nice antique condition, with signs of age including minor fabric wear, as well as one tear/rip, but basically very nice. In addition, it appears to be made with old hand cut nails. For sale is a wonderful late 18th to early 19th century burl veneer tea caddy that I acquired in Pennsylvania, but that is most likely English. It has a sort of pyramid shaped lid with a carved rectangle on top, slightly canted sides, and bun feet. However, what makes it special is that is still retains its original key, mother of pearl escutcheon, and working locking mechanism. The piece measures about 6" tall, 7 1/2" long, and 4 1/4" wide. It is in nice, but antique condition, with some relatively minor restoration, and it looks like 2 of the feet might be replacements, as 2 have screws in the middle, and 2 don't. In addition, the lid doesn't quite fit flat against the box, but at least in my opinion, it displays very well. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a very endearing 19th century scissor cut valentine or love token that has been in my collection for a few years. It is rather naively done, with the main design being a circle of hearts with writing in sepia ink. It is in English, but much of it is rather hard to decipher, but 2 of the hearts say "This is a heart", and the center says "Here I goe around the ring that has no end". The piece has been placed on a black background, and housed in an appropriate, but fairly modern gold frame. The framed valentine measures about 14 1/4" x 13 1/2", with sight measurements of 12" x 11 1/4", and the piece itself measuring about 7 1/2" in diameter. There are no major issues. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions including requests for additional pictures.

For sale is a wonderful antique 19th century folk art pantry/bandbox that I found in Ohio, but that was made in Pennsylvania. It is constructed with splints and wooden pegs. On both the lid and sides, there is a very stereotypical PA. Dutch style design of red tulips with yellow centers, and almost comma shaped leaves on the lid. The box measures about 17 1/2" long, 8 1/2" wide, and 5 3/4" tall, and is in nice but antique condition, with a dark aged patina, an area of missing wood on the top, as well as expected wear around the edges on both the lid and box. There is what looks like a crack on the lid, but I believe that 2 pieces of wood were used in its construction, as when you look on the inside, the line is very straight, and the grain doesn't quite match. In addition, there have been a few areas where nails have been added for reinforcement. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions.

For sale is an antique early 19th century folk art sampler. I believe that the piece is probably English, and there is a religious verse at the top that reads "How great thy goodness, gracious Lord, What love doth dwell in thee: Through every season of my life Thou has remember'd me." The verse is flanked by 2 different vases/urns of flowers, and there is a stylized tulip vine underneath. The lower half has what looks like a gravestone with an urn on top, as well as a variety of flowering plants, birds, including an owl, and what look like 2 cows. In addition, there is a butterfly in the upper left corner, and the entire composition is framed with a strawberry vine border. The sampler is housed in an antique frame with a gold inner liner behind the glass, and although the frame is antique, I'm unsure if it is original. The framed piece measures about 15 3/8" x 13 3/4" with sight measurements of 12 3/8" x 10 3/4", and is in antique condition, with overall light toning, a few tiny brown spots, and a few tiny holes, mainly around the edges. The frame shows age related wear. Acid free backing has been added. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions.

For sale is a wonderful antique early 19th century American primitive folk art double sided butter print. I think that it may have been made in Pennsylvania, but it could also have been made somewhere in New England, as that is where I acquired it. The small side depicts a 4-petal flower with smaller flowers in between each petal, and a piecrust border. It measures about 3 3/4" in diameter and 1/2" thick. The entire piece measures about 2 1/2" thick, and is in antique condition, with significant signs of age and use including shrinkage and cracks.
