Dear Antique Homespun Bonnet w/Detachable Cap

For sale is a very dear and rather unusual antique bonnet that I believe is made of a very small check homespun, and trimmed with pink rickrack. I am unsure if it is an original made in Germany in the late 1800's to early 1900's, or if it was made in France in the 1970's-80's, but either way it is wonderful. Antique PA. Folk Art Running Horse Scherenschnitte

For sale is a wonderful and rather unusual antique folk art running horse scherenschnitte that I acquired from Pennsylvania, and that I'm confident was made there as well. It is mounted on cardboard, and housed in a terrific antique comb painted frame. The framed scissor cutting measures about 11 1/4" x 11" with sight measurements of 8 1/4" x 8". It is in nice but antique condition, as it is permanently mounted on the cardboard, and can't be removed unless done so by a conservator. There is a bit of light staining on the cardboard, and there is light toning on the piece. In addition, acid free backing was placed behind the cardboard, and a new paper backing and wire hanger were added that replaced the original wooden backing. The frame is wonderful, but does shoe some expected age related wear. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

Dtd.1806 Sgnd. Sampler w/ Poem, Birds, Flowers++

For sale is a wonderful antique sampler that I acquired from a sale in Pennsylvania, although I think that it might be English, as there is what looks like a crown at the bottom. I believe the sampler is done in silk thread on homespun linen. The piece is signed "Mary Gribbens's Sampler made in 1806", and there is a poem at the top that says "May I with innocence & peace, My fleeting moments spend, And when the tolls of life shall case (cease), With calmness meet my end." Elements of the design include birds, several types of flowers, trees, and what I think are sheep that are each inside a box at the bottom. It has a floral vine border, and is housed in a fairly modern black painted frame that makes a nice presentation. The framed sampler measures about 19 3/4" x 17 3/4" with sight measurements of 16 1/4" x 14 1/4". It is in very nice antique condition, with a tiny bit of leeching of the brown "F", and a tiny bit of damage along the top edge, barely noticeable, but mentioned for the sake of complete accuracy. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

Chunky Antique Primitive Leaf Design Butter Print

For sale is a rather unusual chunky antique hand carved primitive folk art butter print that at least to me, looks like 4 fern leaves that form a cross. It measures about 3 1/4" in diameter and 1 3/4" thick, and is in nice antique condition, with an aged patina and surface dirt, but no significant flaws. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a fabulous antique 19th century folk art painted dome top box with birds flanking an urn with what I think is a fruit tree on the lid, and a swag design on the front that I acquired from a collection in Pennsylvania. Antique Scandinavian Folk Art Tine Box w/Bird

For sale is a fabulous antique Scandinavian folk art tine box that I acquired from a collection in Missouri. It has a terrific very stylized painted bird on a branch on the lid, and there are leaves and flowers around the perimeter. A fairly simple palette was used, and colors include black, white, yellow, grayish green, and blue. The box is constructed in the traditional way, with thin wooden strips used to hold both the box and lid together, as well as wooden pegs. The piece measures about 15 3/8" long, 9 1/2" wide, and 6 3/8" tall. It is in nice antique condition, with nice signs of age, including even wear where the lid was taken on and off, and a few missing pegs. It should also be noted that it has been reinforced with a few later nails, but the box is very solid. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

For sale is a very nice and rather unusual vintage, possibly antique, handmade folk art 6-drawer spice chest that I acquired from a sale in Pennsylvania, and that I'm sure was made there as well. It is made of pine, and primarily stained dark, but the nicely scalloped top and the framing around the drawers is painted gold, which I have never seen before, and it appears to be old, if not original. In addition, In the middle of the top, there is an incised circle that looks like the sun, or possibly a sunflower. All of the drawer pulls are hand carved wood, and I think that the drawers are mortised. The piece measures about 12 5/8" tall, 7 7/8" wide, and 3 1/2" deep, and is in nice vintage/antique condition, with nice signs of age, including some filler or glue on the back, but it displays very well. Antique Signed Band Sampler w/Chickens, Dogs+++

For sale is a wonderful antique folk art band sampler that I acquired recently in Pennsylvania. It was made by Patty Spaulding, and comes from the collection of Betty Burgess in Truemanville, Nova Sotia, Canada as documented on the back. I am not sure if it is a Canadian sampler, but I suppose that it could be. It could also be from Pennsylvania, but again, I just don't know. It is completed with cotton or possibly wool thread on what I believe is homespun, and depicts the alphabet twice, in one set using double sets of letters (AA,BB, etc.) as well as other names and initials. In addition there are images of rooster, hen, trees, fruit baskets, dogs, and a large very stylized tulip, as well as other images. It is housed in simple, but appropriate frame, and measures about 17 3/4" x 9 3/8", with sight measurements of 15 5/8" x 7 1/4". Antique Silk on Linen Sampler w/House, Tulips+++

For sale is a naive antique, likely early to mid 19th century, unframed silk on linen sampler. I think that it is American, although I can't verify that so it could be English. There is a large house at the top flanked by trees and single flower stems, with the alphabet below that is flanked by urns of what I think are flowers. Below is a large urn of tulips, flanked by baskets or possibly urns that have single stem flowers, as well as 2 more urns of flowers, tiny trees, what look like very stylized single tulips, and 2 tiny what I believe are rabbits. The tiny trees and rabbits are a tan/light brown on the left, and almost the same color as the linen on the right, which makes them almost blend in. There is a triangular border, and the same design divides the piece approximately in half. In addition, the sampler has been sewn onto an ecru cotton backing. The sampler measures about 20 3/4" x 15 1/2", and is in nice antique condition, with light toning, and holes in the corners, as well as 2 others in the middle on the right which aren't noticeable because of the fabric backing. Antiq. Centennial Era Wallpaper Box w/Yellow Birds

For sale is one of the most charming antique wallpaper boxes that I have ever owned. It has the design of yellow and white birds, most likely parrots, perched on flowering branches. The bottom and interior are covered in newspaper that dates to the US centennial of 1876 and is from the "Saturday Night" edition of a Philadelphia paper. In addition, on the bottom there is a stamp that says "Florence L. Burlingame, Chepachet, Rhode Island". The box measures about 15 3/4" long, 13 1/4" wide and 11" tall, and is in nice antique condition, with some expected wear, including a small puncture, and a some water stains on the lid, but very little missing wallpaper. It should also be noted that the bottom has been reinforced over the years, and is currently quite stable. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or to request additional photos.

For sale is a very sweet antique German birdcage pipsqueak that has 3 composition birds inside, one yellow, one, blue, and one red. Antique PA. Multicolor Silk Huswif Sewing Roll-Up

For sale is an antique handmade huswif/sewing silk rollup that I acquired in Pennsylvania, and that I am sure was made there as well. It is hand sewn, and has 8 pockets that are made of a nice variety of silk fabrics in pink, yellow, and blue, some of which are brocades. At the bottom there is a 6-layer semicircle for holding pins and needles. In addition, I looked at the interior of the piece, and it looks like the back has been reinforced with striped linen fabric, possibly homespun. There is also paper on the reverse side of each pocket. The sewing pocket measures about 20" long and 4 1/2" wide, and is in nice antique condition, with some fading on the back, and the felt has detached about 1" from the bottom of the pocket, an easy fix for the new owner. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.

19th C. PA. Folk Art Bandbox w/Tulip Design

For sale is a wonderful antique 19th century folk art pantry/bandbox that I found in Ohio, but that was made in Pennsylvania. It is constructed with splints and wooden pegs. On both the lid and sides, there is a very stereotypical PA. Dutch style design of red tulips with yellow centers, and almost comma shaped leaves on the lid. The box measures about 17 1/2" long, 8 1/2" wide, and 5 3/4" tall, and is in nice but antique condition, with a dark aged patina, an area of missing wood on the top, as well as expected wear around the edges on both the lid and box. There is what looks like a crack on the lid, but I believe that 2 pieces of wood were used in its construction, as when you look on the inside, the line is very straight, and the grain doesn't quite match. In addition, there have been a few areas where nails have been added for reinforcement. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions.
