This varnished salt box dates to the late 1800 - early 1900. The maker took great care in the construction to create a piece that looks like a buffet. The one drawer at top and the two below are carved into the box and the pulls are small pegs. The top is not hinged. On the side panels there remains the grain painting using the combing technique. It measures 51/4 inches to the top of the scalloped back splash, 3 inches deep and 6 inches wide. Tiny nails were used throughout construction. This piece is very well made and in pristine condition.
