Decorated Music Calligraphy w/Shaped Matte
Price: 225

A rather ornately decorated piece of Musical Calligraphy, UNFRAMED, but with a uniquely shaped matte (small) with an incised border. It probably dates to the mid-late 19th century. The music and words are hard to read (very tiny notes/letters and faded) but there is a note attached indicating that the words are “Let Providence o’er each thought…”, and it is probably an adaptation of a popular William Cowper hymn from the mid 18th century. The watercolor decoration is strong. It includes several instruments (something that resembles a violin/viola, a lyre, a horn and a clarinet(?) and numerous green leaves of various shapes. The visible portion of the drawing measures 5” x 3 ½” and the overall matte size is Z 1/8” x 6 1/8”. Some slight age discoloration to the paper, but the colors remain good. Matte has some very minor edge bumping and very slight soiling, but no other issues.
