Small 18th C. Pewter Holy Water Jug
Price: 250
Sold by West Pelham Antiques
This small pewter jug was probably used for holy water in the 18th century. It is engraved “A 1700” under the spout: 1700 may have been the year the jug’s church was built, but I think the piece dates to later that century. 3 3/” high (4 5/8 to the top of the finial), 2 5/8” in diameter at the base and approximately 4” from handle to spout. There are decorative lines on the thumb piece on the lid, but no maker’s markings, It is in very fine condition: nice, mellow color and no cracks, breaks, etc. Some very minor denting on the bottom and a couple of nicks on the foot rim, but otherwise it is free from dents or other blemishes. The lid is securely attached and opens/closes properly. I’m sure its size made it easy for the priest to carry it when giving communion.
