Staffordshire Figure of Sitting Gorilla
Price: 175
Sold by West Pelham Antiques
Just what every ceramics collector has been looking for: a Staffordshire Gorilla from the 19th century. This guy/gal is seated on a stomp, facing forward, with the right arm wrapped around a tree trunk or a pole (must have been a hard night!). The gorilla is gray, the post has a green surface and stump/seat is white. 4” high and the base is 1 ¾” x 1 ½”. Excellent condition with no blemishes, cracks, etc. It is very thick or solid pottery and was possibly a whimsy or a child’s toy. It is the only example I have ever seen.
