For sale is a wonderful antique dated August 1820 sampler that was made by Lydia Otis, who the sampler states was born in Scituate, MA on February 5, 1809. According to information that came with the sampler, it came from the historic Otis Homestead. Several versions of the alphabet have been embroidered, as well as urns of flowers in the lower corners. There is also a religious verse that I can't make out very well, but a typed note that came with the sampler will be included that has most of the verse. I don't think that the frame is original. The framed sampler measures about 19 1/4" x 12 3/4" with sight measurements of 16 1/4" x 9 3/4". It is in nice antique condition, with overall toning and one area of minor damage. In addition, it should be noted that the sampler was removed from the frame for examination, and acid free backing was added before replacing the paper backing and wire hanger. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions, or for additional photos.
