For sale is a charming antique late 19th century Ohio folk art watercolor that depicts a young man sitting on a tree stump fishing, with a young woman holding a basket of flowers behind him, and a dog sleeping nearby. There are trees and a fence behind them, and in the middle at the bottom, there is the signature "W.I. Swartz, Greenville". On the back there is information indicating that originally there had been a note stating that the painting was made for "Grandpa Harbison" when he was in school in Greenville, Ohio. It also states that the artist was William I. Swartz, who was born in Greenville, Ohio in 1865, along with additional information. The painting is done on lined paper, and is housed in a period frame with the original wavy glass, as well as the original wire loop hanger at the top. The framed piece measures about 11 1/2" x 9 1/2" with sight measurements of 9" x7". It is in nice antique condition, with expected signs of age on the frame, and some light brown stains as well as a brown stripe down the middle along a fold line. The paper backing is a new replacement. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions or for additional photos.
