Price: $175.50 ~Freight to be Determined~

Sold by Buttonwillow Country Antiques

Handsome document box circa 1840 boasting a brass heart escutcheon along with interior lined wallpaper. Studs are not brass but the strips they adhere to are. Abraded surface showing gentle crazing along with Square nailed construction is a testament to the age. Screws used for the inside hinges are of the same time period. Newer wooden strips on the inside lid are a later addition installed for an unknown purpose secured by contemporary screws. Remnants of red fabric appear on the two top boards. Writing done in pencil located on these strips may have been done by a youngster. Interesting wooden handle fashioned with brass “end caps”. Locking mechanism still intact but key is long gone. One of the leather strips used to secure the lid in an upright position on the right side is broken. A double horizontal lighter stripe on the front and back lid location was intended as a gentle decorative feature. Most of the interior wallpaper is intact with minimal loss but has also experienced staining on the bottom section. Overall condition is still good and should appeal to most heart collectors! Measures 17” across, stands 7 ½” tall and is 9” deep. More pictures available.
