Antique Miniature Reverse Painting of Sad Beagle

For sale is a very sweet antique folk art miniature reverse painting that depicts a very sad looking beagle that I acquired in Nashville. I think that perhaps the dog is in mourning, as there is a vase with a single flower in it by his tail, as well as an image above the vase of which I have been unable to determine what exactly it is. It sort of looks like some type pf animal that might symbolize something, I just don't know. The painting is housed in what I believe is the original frame with a metal loop hanger, and measures about 5 7/8" x 4 7/8" with sight measurements of 4 1/8" x 3 1/8". It is in nice antique condition, although it was removed from the frame for examination, and a new paper backing was added.
