For sale is one of several antique late 19th century Black folk dolls that I acquired recently, and that were formerly in the collection of Nancy and Gary Stass. Most are completely original including the clothing. This one has naively stitched facial features and almost appears to be sleeping, and her hair is nubby wool. Her head and torso are firmly stuffed with what feels like cotton. Her dress is a very sweet blue, red, yellow, and cream plaid fabric with a adorable short puffy sleeves. In addition, she is wearing a cotton petticoat with a wide ruffle, bloomers with lace trim, black cotton knit socks, and leather boots. The doll measures about 26" tall, and is in antique condition, with make-do mismatched replaced arms, holes in the top layer of fabric on her face, and some damage to her bloomers. Still, the doll would be a very nice addition to any antique folk art doll collection, especially if you like rather primitive ones.
