Sold by West Pelham Antiques

Emma Seward’s needlework sampler, dated 1833. This is an English sampler and it includes a image of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, a basket of fruit, flowers, trees, small birds, angels, and a couple of black cats (just below the basket of fruit). It measures 12 1/8” x 16” and is framed in a wooden frame, making the overall size 16” x 20 ¼”. The needlework is in very fine condition: clean and crisp with no rips, spots, etc. and only a couple of tiny holes in the linen, not affecting any of the stitches. The wooden frame has some minor separation at the corners, but is solid. Not examined out of the frame.
