For sale is a charming antique 19th century folk art wool on gauzy linen that I acquired in Iowa, and that may have been made there as well. The maker's name is Eleanor Brahe, and the surname is Scandinavian, I believe. There are quite a few people of Scandinavian descent in Iowa, and there is a note on the back that says "Helen Allen Family, Quaker, 1834", and although undated, I don't think the sampler is quite that early. I would date it to the 1870's-80's. The design includes both the upper and lower case alphabet, the words "God is Love". the numbers 1-6, and a house flanked by what I believe are very stylized tulips. The sampler has been mounted on linen, and housed in a vintage wood frame. The piece measures about 13 1/4" x 12 1/2", and is in very nice antique condition, with minor toning, but no significant flaws. Please look carefully at the pictures, and contact me with any questions or for additional photos.
