Sold by Buttonwillow Country Antiques

Delightful linen sampler held under glass wrought by “Ann Stevens” in the year of “1847”, “aged 11 years old”. Strong color along with playful motifs consisting of a black cat, birds, red hearts, rabbits or squirrels (depending on the viewers interpretation) along with floral designs sprouting from pots and urns adds plenty of whimsy to this lighthearted scene. “Remember thy creator in the days of thy youth” stitched with black cotton thread located in centerfield lends yet another focal point. The unusual numerical sequence of numbers ends in “20”. Tacks hold the sampler in place. Toning to the linen sprinkled at random. Good condition as there are no holes or thread loss! Frame has experienced some paint loss as well as a missing area to the raised bead on the lower left-hand side. Lovely textile that is unpretentious and simple creatively wrought by a little girl choosing motifs she favored in her composition. Measures 16 ½” tall, measures 12 ½” across and is ¾” deep.
