🌼 Finely crafted northeastern woodland native American basket having a curly weave referred to as a “porcupine” design element that is repeated on all four sides. Contents is included. This traditional porcupine weave was incorporated by folding and pinching the splint that creates spikey points. Basket dates to the early 1900’s and was fashioned primarily from ash. Most tribal people used basket making as a way to make a living outside of non-Native towns and cities. Basket exhibits rich patina along with an expertly woven design. I wanted to honor the history of the maker by arranging chosen woodland pieces that came from a forest setting by placing them inside. An array of pine-cones, pods, acorns, along with a bird’s nest are some of the items I choose. A piece of fabric portraying an earthy foliate design gently lays over the rim. Basket is in good overall condition showing a couple broken splints. Bottom and inside splints are in great shape. Stands 4 ¾” tall, measures 12” across (right to left) and measures 10 ¼” front to back. More pictures Available.
