American, Queen Anne period, New England, maple pipe box. Ca. 1700 - 1750. Wonderful surface patina that only early maple attains. Dovetailed base and drawer with T-head nail construction. There is also a period crack across the bottom of the drawer front. Early tight wood splint on right side of box from a break. Shallow chip out of the top that is well worn. Original initials “R T” carved into the front of the drawer. Super scalloped sides and whale tale end on back board. Some white paint drips and smears on back and bottom and inside compartment that don’t show from the outside. Measurements are 18 3/4” tall x 4 1/2” wide x 5” deep. Very high end pipe box with good honest wear. More photos available.
