For sale is a charming antique folk art pen wipe that depicts a chicken and 5 chicks that I acquired several years ago in Pennsylvania, and that I'm fairly confident was made there as well. All the birds are made of chenille and wire, their wire legs/feet are covered with thread, and they are perched on a velvet covered cardboard base. Although it doesn't have layers of wool felt as most pen wipes do, it definitely was used as one, as there are ink stains along the edges of the scalloped base. The piece measures about 5" tall, the chicken is about 3 1/2" long, the chicks are each about 2" long, and the base is about 5" in diameter. The pen wipe is in nice antique condition, with the previously mentioned signs of use at the bottom, wear and minor surface dirt on the velvet base, but no significant issues.
