18th century forged iron spiral courting stick

This example is extra nice in that the push-up finger thumb piece is forged iron curl with an original hanger chair hook at the top. Dating in the 18th century but could be even earlier. These were designed to lower the candle or raise as you had a set time for courting in the 17th and 18th century. Has original walnut base and measures 7 tall. Great untouched early lighting device.
