"Funky" Bird on Stand

I’m calling this creature a “Funky” Bird on stand because I do not know what it is supposed to represent (a shorebird?, a waterbird?). It has a long, pointed bill, long skinny neck, a hump-back and a split trail. There is a groove on one (right) side of the bird and again, I don’t know what it was meant for, if anything. The bird is solid black with some light yellow/gold feather (?) markings on its back. Head with neck and body were carved separately. Very fine condition with only a very faint split on the right side of the hump, just above the unknown indentation. Stands very elegantly on its home-made stand.
