Miniature French (Canadian?) Sampler,1838

Price: 195

Sold by West Pelham Antiques

A miniature French (possibly French Canadian) sampler dated 1838. “Eugene Parti le 26 Mai, 1838” (Eugene Died on May 26, 1838). The piece is stitched in coarse brown thread on tan linen and includes the initials “C R” at the bottom (possibly the initials of the maker). It measures 5 1/8” x 7 7/8” and is framed in a contemporary wooden frame (frame size is 6” x 8 ¾”). There is a label from a South Carolina art store on the back and a small section of the backing paper has torn away. The needlework itself is not damaged. (Not examined out of the frame.) An interesting addition to a miniature sampler collection.
