Published 19th C. Zebra Pull Toy Ex Wendel

For sale is a terrific, and fairly rare form antique 19th century zebra pull toy that was formerly in the collection of Bruce and Doranna Wendel. It was also published in the book "American Folk Sculpture" by Robert Bishop on page 361 illustration 683. I believe that it is American, as information in the book indicates a New Hampshire origin. It is carved wood that has been hand painted, and the paint is old, if not original. The zebra sits on a barn red painted base with metal wheels, and there is a hole in the front for a string/rope, as well as a hole with a metal insert on the left side in the back, possibly for inserting a stick or something similar to push the toy. It has a horsehair tail, and measures about 20" tall, 20" long, and 7" wide on the base, and is in very nice antique condition, with signs of age and use, including nice paint craquelure, yellowing of the white paint, but no significant flaws. I'm unsure if the tail is original, and the top of the base may have been repainted at some point, although I'm not sure.
