Westerwald tavern stoneware pitcher, ca.1780-1820. Made in Germany and brought to Britain and the colonies. Very good condition having nice patina. No chips or cracks. A factory made hole is on top of handle for attaching a lid which this one never had. Would have been used in taverns and inns of the period. Similar pitcher can be seen in George Neumann’s, Early American Antique Country Furnishings, p. 263. 9 14” x 6” wide ovoid center with handle. 3 1/8” dia. base.
